Atherotech Diagnostics Lab will showcase its VAP® Cholesterol Test in booth 324 at the American Osteopathic Association's 115th Annual Osteopathic Medical Conference & Exposition (OMED 2010). The gathering of DOs, residents, interns, students, researchers and health care professionals will be held October 24-28 at Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco.

“Using the detailed lipid profiles in the VAP Cholesterol Test, we can identify atherosclerosis risk that goes far beyond the capabilities of the standard lipid profile”

The exhibit hall will feature the latest pharmaceutical, health care technology and physician recruitment products and services available for this growing industry. Atherotech Diagnostics Lab representatives will be available to discuss new research, the patented VAP® Cholesterol Test and cardiometabolic test options throughout the OMED 2010 gathering. Blood draws will be provided to qualified attendees during regular exhibit hours at booth 324. Unlike the standard lipid profile, the VAP Test directly measures LDL; therefore, fasting is not required.

Atherotech's VAP Test is the only expanded lipid test that routinely reports directly measured LDL-C, which is included in the 22 reported cholesterol components — all at no additional cost. These components include Lp(a), apoB, apoA1, and the apoB/apoA1 ratio, making the VAP Test the only lipid profile that routinely reports all three lipid parameters — LDL, non-HDL and apoB — considered necessary by the American Diabetes Association and American College of Cardiology. The comprehensive lipid profile also identifies markers of metabolic syndrome, often associated with early diabetes.

"Using the detailed lipid profiles in the VAP Cholesterol Test, we can identify atherosclerosis risk that goes far beyond the capabilities of the standard lipid profile," Atherotech Chief Medical Officer Michael E. Cobble, M.D., said. "A cholesterol test which identifies the complete lipid picture can complement lipid risk identification and targeted lipid treatment in our clinical practices."

Atherotech provides physicians with a single source for the VAP Cholesterol Test and more than a dozen cardiovascular and metabolic tests, including C-Reactive Protein (hsCRP), LpPLA2, apoE genotype, NT-proBNP, Cystatin-C, T3 and T4 when TSH is abnormal, plus gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT), a recognized cardiovascular risk biomarker.
