AAHC launches Education and Training Clinical Research Compliance Tool

The Association of Academic Health Centers (AAHC) launched the Education and Training Clinical Research Compliance Tool designed to assist academic health center leaders, research administrators, compliance and clinical trials office administrators, and directors of compliance education and training in strengthening and improving the development and implementation of clinical research compliance education and training programs.

"This tool is a practical guide to developing and evaluating the clinical research compliance education and training program infrastructure," said AAHC President Dr. Steven A. Wartman, adding, "The infrastructure required to support and sustain compliance education and training programs is often decentralized and under-resourced which can hamper program effectiveness.  This Tool is an effective resource to assist researchers in assessing their programs to accommodate a rapidly changing regulatory and research environment."

The tool is intended to engage leadership and key stakeholders in developing and implementing a comprehensive, institution-wide strategic plan for compliance education and training programs that can be customized to address resources, staffing, and technology needs, as well as establish effectual means to monitor and evaluate the program.

"This valuable tool will help all users assess and maximize organizational strengths and manage effective education programs for this critically important element of the research enterprise," according to Dr. Wartman.  

The tool is the product of collaboration with the AAHC's Forum on Regulation, the executive leadership group comprising chief compliance officers of academic health centers nationwide, which is dedicated to fostering the development of appropriate regulatory compliance frameworks for universities and the nation.  It is also designed to complement the AAHC's Clinical Trials Administration Toolkit, a groundbreaking and innovative step-by-step guide to analyze and improve clinical trials administration.
