The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) is encouraging its affiliates to go Passionately Pink for the Cure this October in an effort to educate their communities about breast cancer and to raise funds for Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the IAFF Charitable Foundation.
This breast cancer awareness campaign, which was introduced at the IAFF John P. Redmond Symposium and Dominick F. Barbera EMS Conference in New York City this week, is an opportunity for the IAFF and its affiliates to participate in National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in a significant way.
"IAFF members are all dedicated to saving lives - and not just when responding to an emergency," says IAFF General President Harold A. Schaitberger. "This program provides our members with another opportunity to make a difference in their communities."
IAFF launched the program after passing a resolution at its 2010 IAFF Convention that encourages fire fighters to support breast cancer awareness and fundraising. The Susan G. Komen Passionately Pink for the Cure program provides an easy and fun framework to engage friends and colleagues in the breast cancer movement, and is a great way for IAFF members to contribute to the cause.
"The support of the IAFF will undoubtedly have a tremendous effect on millions of breast cancer patients, survivors and their families in the fire fighting community and beyond," says Ambassador Nancy G. Brinker, founder and CEO of Susan G. Komen.
Funds raised during the October campaign will be split equally between the IAFF Charitable Foundation and Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
