Domain Surgical, a leading developer of advanced thermal surgical technology, today announced that its novel FMwand Ferromagnetic Surgical System has been used successfully in 100 cases. The FMwand simultaneously cuts and coagulates tissue without passing electrical current into the patient, making it safe to use near delicate tissue structures.

To date, the FMwand has been used by 49 different surgeons at 23 of the leading hospitals and research institutions throughout the United States. The FMwand has been successfully used in a wide variety of surgical procedures including the removal of many types of tumors, mastectomy, neurosurgery, gynecology, orthopedic, epilepsy, spine, liver, urology, ENT, and plastic surgery.

"We are thrilled to have reached this significant milestone, and encouraged by the obvious breadth of surgical applications for the FMwand," said David McNally, president and CEO of Domain Surgical. "Surgeons who have used the FMwand are extremely pleased with the precision and performance of the device. Our ferromagnetic surgical platform has been proven to minimize damage to surrounding tissue, leaving as much healthy tissue intact as possible. Surgeons are excited for the potential of improved patient outcomes due to this breakthrough technology."

Domain Surgical's FMwand product line is based upon patent-pending thermal surgical technology whereby a surgical tool can be rapidly heated to consistently deliver pure thermal energy to cut and coagulate soft tissue. When the heated tool contacts tissue, it cuts and seals the surface with a very low depth of penetration compared to most other surgical energy devices, which results in superior cutting and coagulation, with little risk of unintentional injury to adjacent or deep tissue.
