SafeStitch Medical®, Inc. (OTCBB: SFES), is pleased to announce that it has officially changed the name of the AMID Stapler® to AMID™ Hernia Fixation Device to better describe the functionalities of the device.

"We believe the distinct features of the AMID Hernia Fixation Device offer improved functionality, including the unique 45 degree angle head, mesh manipulators and staple counter when compared to a standard medical device stapler. We are excited to offer this easy-to-use tool to health care professionals," said Jeffrey Spragens, President and CEO of SafeStitch Medical.

The AMID Hernia Fixation Device was created to offer an innovative alternative to manual suturing for inguinal hernia repair using the Lichtenstein method. The design fixates mesh by delivering staples in a parallel plane to the femoral vessels, which may help avoid vascular injury. The AMID Hernia Fixation Device allows for mesh manipulation, mesh fixation and skin closure.

Dr. Parviz Amid, inventor of the AMID Hernia Fixation Device, Clinical Professor of Surgery at UCLA, cofounder of the Lichtenstein Hernia Institute in 1986, and Executive Director of Lichtenstein Amid Hernia Clinic at UCLA, stated, "The unique features of mesh manipulators and angled head help ease the open hernia repair procedure."
