Xstrahl, MacroMedics sign contract to distribute state-of-the-art fixation devices in the USA

MacroMedics BV the innovation leader in patient fixation devices has signed a distribution contract with Xstrahl in the USA. Xstrahl have been successfully distributing MacroMedics in the UK for 3 years. This partnership has allowed radiotherapy centers across the UK to gain access to the innovative and versatile systems. Now Xstrahl will be offering these unique products to US hospitals.

Adrian Treverton COO of Xstrahl’s US Subsidiary highlighted:

The new Double Shell Positioning System (DSPS™) from MacroMedics is an exciting advancement in fixation devices. We are looking forward to being able to introduce the DSPS™ to the US market at the AAPM annual meeting Austin, TX.

For each patient undergoing radiation treatment in the head and neck region, both supine and prone, the DSPS™ provides a unique and accurate individual positioning and fixation mask for both occipital and facial areas. The product was designed to be simple, easy to use and patient friendly, whilst providing the best immobilisation available. The DSPS™ is an advanced solution for stereotactic radiotherapy.

The DSPS™ concept is created around an ultra-light but very rigid carbon fibre (CF) cradle with maximum accessibility for preparation of the individual occipital mask. For the construction specific high-end aerospace fibers are used and the cradle has been designed and manufactured for optimal dosimetric properties. The CF cradle is available for and compatible with most common head and neck systems.

Adrian Treverton COO of Xstrahl’s US Subsidiary commented:

Our vision is a future where every patient receives patient centred healthcare. The DSPS™ truly individualises head and neck fixation with a conformal front and rear mask. We already work with radiation oncologists who are pushing the boundaries of radiation treatment pre-clinically, the DSPS™ allows them the reassurance in patient set-up to allow these innovative treatments to be realised.

Leo de Mooy CEO of MacroMedics BV:

Unremitting innovation in product design combined with the introduction of new high-end materials and production techniques and direct interaction with RT professionals will bring us a new generation of state of the art patient positioning systems. Our main focus is on high-end, precise and comfortable patient treatment that will help us to reach improved and optimized treatment outcome.

Xstrahl will also be showcasing its range of superficial treatment systems and the SARRP pre-clinical radiation research platform.
