First Lady to discuss Let's Move! initiative on childhood obesity during NLC Conference

Michelle Obama, First Lady of the United States of America, will address city leaders during the National League of Cities' (NLC) 2011 Congressional City Conference on March 15th in Washington, DC.  The conference sessions will focus on federal policy issues and an economic growth agenda for America's hometowns and the country.  

The First Lady will discuss her Let's Move! initiative, a nationwide movement to reduce childhood obesity in a generation, that focuses on engaging cities and towns and their mayors and other elected leaders for their critical roles in spurring local action to promote healthy eating and active living.  NLC collaborates with the White House and the Department of Health and Human Services to encourage members to participate in Let's Move Cities and Towns. More than 500 cities and towns currently participate.

Fully open to the press, the Congressional City Conference is the annual legislative meeting of the National League of Cities, designed to inform municipal leaders about federal policy issues, while providing an opportunity for city leaders to bring local concerns to their congressional delegations, the Administration, and federal agency leadership in Washington, DC.  

Over 1,500 delegates will attend the conference.  These leaders come from towns and cities from every region in the nation: St Paul; San Antonio; New York City; Los Angeles; Wichita; Mesa; El Paso; Memphis; Nashville; Boston; Philadelphia; Charlotte; Bluffton, IN; Avondale, AZ just to name a very few.
