The University of Greenwich's School of Science launches its public lecture series for the new academic year with an event at the Medway Campus on Wednesday, October 5.

Children's Medicines: Why Society Must Try Harder is the title of the lecture by Stephen Wicks, Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Director of Research within the School of Science. The talk, which is free and open to all, takes place at the Pilkington Lecture Theatre at 6pm.

Professor Wicks says: "Medicines are primarily developed by the pharmaceutical industry for adults. Products are not developed with children in mind, and our understanding of personalising medicines for children is underdeveloped.

"We need a more scientific approach to the development of medicines for children - we cannot regard them just as small adults - and a range of medications that covers a wider spectrum of ages."
