Therapath LLC, the leader in comprehensive diagnostic and consultative neuropathology laboratory services, has signed a national contract with United Healthcare, a division of UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH), to provide the pathology analysis for these specialty services.

Under the agreement, Therapath will work directly with the United Healthcare physician network to handle and process the pathology specimens at a fraction of the cost of non-participating pathology laboratories. In addition, the transaction will improve the turn around time of results for both the patients and physicians.

Therapath Neuropathology, founded in 2004, is a College of American Pathology (CAP) accredited laboratory that provides pathology services throughout the United States. It currently serves clients (medical centers and physicians) from every state in the US. Physicians in United Healthcare's network can submit their specimens directly to Therapath.

"Therapath's partnership with United Healthcare will provide a (better) high quality, reliable and more convenient experience for United Healthcare physicians and members at a lower cost than traditional non specialized labs," said Charles (Chip) Hearn, Director of Finance at Therapath. "Our process ensures a simplified, consistent process to submit these specialized biopsy specimens which will benefit both the physicians and UNH members."
