Varian Medical Systems (NYSE: VAR), today announced its intent to collaborate with several cancer treatment centers in Brazil for the training of healthcare professionals on advanced radiotherapy technologies. Currently the institutions in this collaborative training program will include Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, Hospital Sirio Libanês, Beneficencia Portugesa de São Paulo, Grupo COI Rio de Janeiro and Hospital de Câncer de Barretos.
Working with these institutions, Varian will be offering training on advanced radiotherapy technologies and treatment techniques for healthcare professionals across Brazil through clinical preceptorships and schools. Participants in the preceptorships will have the opportunity to learn through in-clinic immersion sessions about treatment protocols, planning and delivery, as well as patient flow. The clinical schools will offer 2-4 day courses on select cancer treatment topics utilizing lectures and hands-on use cases from professionals at the cancer treatment center and members of Varian's clinical education and applications team.
"These collaborations provide the means for healthcare professionals in Brazil to leverage the combined expertise of leading cancer centers and Varian to increase their knowledge of radiotherapy technology and techniques to deliver a high standard of care," said Humberto Izidoro, Varian's managing director for Brazil. "We are proud to collaborate with major institutions who align with our mission to focus energy on saving lives."
