Sutter Home Family Vineyards today announced the renewal of its annual Sutter Home for Hope program. Since 2001, Sutter Home has been committed to supporting breast cancer research through the consumer-driven Capsules for Hope program and has donated more than $800,000 toward breast cancer awareness.

Remuda Ranch to support EDC's efforts on Capitol Hill

Since 1990, Remuda Ranch Programs for Eating and Anxiety Disorders has treated more than 10,000 patients suffering from anorexia, bulimia, anxiety and related issues. On Saturday, September 30, Remuda Ranch will support the Eating Disorders Coalition's efforts on Capitol Hill. The goal of lobby day is to influence policy makers and meet directly with elected officials and their staff about legislation that will impact all those affected by eating disorders.

CINJ, NJDHSS partner to create Center of Excellence for Cancer Surveillance

A new partnership between The Cancer Institute of New Jersey, the state's only National Cancer Institute -designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services will create a Center of Excellence for Cancer Surveillance to help track, examine, prevent and control cancer. CINJ is a Center of Excellence of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

HHS Secretary Sebelius announces $130.8 million in grants to expand health professions workforce

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius today announced $130.8 million in grants to strengthen and expand the health professions workforce. Six areas are targeted: primary care workforce training, oral health workforce training, equipment to enhance training across the health professions, loan repayments for health professionals, health careers opportunity programs for disadvantaged students, and patient navigator outreach and chronic disease prevention in health disparity populations.

APC gene mutation affects DNA methylation in colon cancer: Research

Colon cancer is the second most common cancer in the United States and causes more than 50,000 deaths each year. It has been known for some time that mutations in the APC gene occur in more than 85 percent of all sporadic colon cancers. Now researchers at Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah demonstrate in a study featured today in Cell the mechanism by which mutation of the APC gene affects a cellular process known as DNA methylation.

Researchers identify new target for cystic fibrosis

The lab of Kevin Foskett, PhD, the Isaac Ott Professor of Physiology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, has found a possible new target for fighting cystic fibrosis (CF) that could compensate for the lack of a functioning ion channel in affected CF-related cells.
