UCB's Cimzia and Centocor's Simponi penetrate first line biologic position in RA

In its recently released annual 2010 update, ChartTrends®: Biologics in Rheumatoid Arthritis, BioTrends Research Group, Inc. finds that newer biologic agents such as UCB's Cimzia and Centocor OrthoBiotech's Simponi, although lagging in overall market share, have begun to penetrate the first line biologic position primarily at the expense of Pfizer/Amgen's Enbrel and Abbott's Humira.

Researchers develop new lung imaging technique that causes minimum tissue disruption

Fast-moving objects create blurry images in photography, and the same challenge exists when scientists observe cellular interactions within tissues constantly in motion, such as the breathing lung. In a recent UCSF-led study in mice, researchers developed a method to stabilize living lung tissue for imaging without disrupting the normal function of the organ.

Exome sequencing leads to correct diagnosis and life-saving treatment for mysterious genetic disorder

A genetic testing approach called exome sequencing—which provides a clinically practical alternative to whole-genome sequencing—led to correct diagnosis and life-saving treatment in a child with a previously unknown genetic disease, reports an upcoming paper in Genetics in Medicine, the official peer-reviewed journal of The American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG). The journal is published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, a part of Wolters Kluwer Health.
