Lung inflammation in a case of a 16-year-old linked to vaping

The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has warned earlier last month about the possible risk of lung inflammation from the exposure to the fluid in e-cigarettes. Now a case of a 16-year-old boy was reported with life threatening lung inflammation leading to respiratory failure.

Vaping risks significant, says new review

Electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) are still a very new thing as far as research is concerned. In other words, scientists don’t actually know much about what e-cigarettes do to the body. However, a new review on e-cigarettes and heart health, published in the journal Cardiovascular Health on November 7, 2019, says that these devices have a worrying impact on the cardiovascular system, despite the widespread perception that they are safe.

Bfr advises e-cigarette consumers to avoid products of uncertain origin

This is pointed out by the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) following the frequent occurrences of severe lung disorders amongst "vapers" in the USA. "According to current understanding, e-cigarette consumers in Germany do not face any increased risks, provided they continue to use products that comply with European and German regulations," says BfR President Professor Dr. Dr. Andreas Hensel."

Single vaping episode of cannabis could yield positive results in urine drug tests

In a study of six adults, Johns Hopkins Medicine researchers report evidence that a single vaping episode of cannabis that is similar in chemical composition to that found in legal hemp products could possibly result in positive results on urine drug screening tests commonly used by many employers and criminal justice or school systems.

Vaping-related deaths: analysis hints at THC as culprit

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have now received information on 34 deaths and over 1,600 cases of e-cigarette, or vaping, product use associated lung injury (EVALI), as of October 22, 2019. This means over 120 new cases in just one week. The CDC has run a comprehensive analysis on 29 of the deaths.

Vaping propylene glycol and vegetable glycerine may lead to lung inflammation

Researchers have found that using e-cigarettes with the e-liquid refills containing propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG) may lead to inflammation of the lungs over a period of time. The results of the study titled, “Effects of Electronic Cigarette Constituents on the Human Lung: A Pilot Clinical Trial,” was published in the latest issue of the journal Cancer Prevention Research this week.
