Merck's DULERA Inhalation Aerosol for asthma receives FDA approval

Merck today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved DULERA® (mometasone furoate and formoterol fumarate dihydrate) Inhalation Aerosol, a new fixed-dose combination asthma treatment for patients 12 years of age and older. DULERA is not indicated for the relief of acute bronchospasm. DULERA combines an inhaled corticosteroid (mometasone furoate) with a long-acting beta2-agonist (formoterol fumarate).

ATP-driven bioluminescence predicts children at high risk for tooth decay: OHSU study

Researchers at the Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry have determined that ATP-driven (adenosine triphosphate-driven) bioluminescence - a way of measuring visible light generated from ATP contained in bacteria - is an innovative tool for rapidly assessing in children at the chair-side the number of oral bacteria and amount of plaque that can ultimately lead to tooth decay.

Lantheus Medical Imaging, Inc., a worldwide leader in diagnostic medical imaging, today announced preliminary data from a single site participating in the multicenter Phase 2 clinical trial that showed that Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging with its novel investigational agent flurpiridaz F 18 injection (formerly known as BMS747158) provided better image quality than technetium-99m sestamibi single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), the current standard for the non-invasive detection of coronary artery disease (CAD).

Can-Fite BioPharma opens CF101 IND for psoriasis with US FDA

Can-Fite BioPharma Ltd, a biotechnology company traded on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, announced today that it has opened Investigational New Drug application (IND) with the United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA). The IND is for Can-Fite's lead compound, CF101, for the treatment of patients with psoriasis. This is the third US IND for CF101, and the fourth for Can-Fite.

Santen licenses Clinical Data's ATL313 agonist compound for development of ophthalmic treatments

Clinical Data, Inc., and Santen Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., today announced that Santen has exercised its option to license Clinical Data's highly selective adenosine A2A agonist compound, ATL313, for the development of topical treatments for certain ophthalmic diseases, including glaucoma. FDA grants tentative approval for Sagent Pharmaceuticals' adenosine injection

Sagent Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a privately held specialty pharmaceutical company, today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration had granted tentative approval of adenosine injection, USP, the generic equivalent of Astellas Pharmaceuticals' Adenoscan®, in 60 mg per 20 mL and 90 mg per 30 mL vials. IMS data indicate that the 2009 U.S. innovator market for these adenosine presentations approximated $124 million. The Company plans to launch the product upon expiry of applicable innovator patents.
