EC grants Allos Therapeutics' pralatrexate orphan medicinal product designation for CTCL treatment

Allos Therapeutics, Inc. announced today that the European Commission (EC) has granted orphan medicinal product designation for pralatrexate for the treatment of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL). The Company is currently investigating pralatrexate in a Phase 1 clinical study in patients with relapsed or refractory CTCL.

Diabetes associated with increased risk of cancer

A new consensus statement of experts assembled by the American Diabetes Association and the American Cancer Society reviews emerging evidence that suggests cancer incidence is associated with diabetes as well as certain diabetes risk factors and treatments. The new report reviews the state of science concerning the association between diabetes and cancer incidence/prognosis; risk factors common to both diseases; possible biologic links between diabetes and cancer risk; and whether diabetes treatments influence the risk of cancer or cancer prognosis.

Innovacell Biotechnologie commences enrollment in urocell Phase IIb study for bladder weakness

"First patient in" is the call from the Innsbruck firm, Innovacell Biotechnologie AG, as the first patient was recruited at the MHAT Plovdiv clinic in Bulgaria for the Phase IIb study of the advanced therapy medicinal product, urocell®. The clinical study will be conducted, beside Bulgaria, in the Czech Republic, Germany, Poland and Romania at more than 50 clinics.

Fluorescent cancerous tumors for early detection

Researchers at the Ecole Polytechnique F-d-rale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland have established a procedure where cancerous tumors in the bladder become fluorescent and are more easily discoverable under blue light. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the technique- already in practice in Europe - for the American market. Under the name Cysview-, the product is commercialized by Photocure and GE Healthcare as the most efficient detection technique for early stage bladder cancer.

Telormedix, a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company focused on targeted immunity in the treatment of cancer and other diseases, today announced the start of a Phase I/II clinical study of TMX-101 for the treatment of Non-Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer. Report highlights deprivation gap caused by late diagnosis of cancer, differences in treatment choices

There could be as many as 14,000 fewer cases of cancer each year in England if everyone was as healthy as the richest 20 per cent in the country. And the difference between the classes is more marked among men than women. Among men there were 21 per cent more cases of cancer in the most deprived areas compared to the least deprived, whereas the gap among women was 11 per cent.

PEB's European licensee SDX completes clinical trial for prognostic gene signature for colorectal cancer

Pacific Edge (PEB), a New Zealand-based biomedical company, today announced the successful completion of the European clinical trial for their prognostic gene signature for colorectal cancer.
