Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. announces the FDA clearance of the Aquilion PRIME 80 series CT system, the latest addition to the Aquilion CT product line. Producing high-quality clinical images and reducing radiation exposure with Adaptive Iterative Dose Reduction 3D (AIDR 3D), the system can generate 80 unique slices per rotation.

Study finds increase in use of emergency CT in pediatric patients with abdominal pain

Computed tomography (CT) utilization in pediatric patients with non-traumatic abdominal pain increased in emergency departments each year between 1999 and 2007, according to a new study published online in the journal Radiology. The study authors found no corresponding increase in ultrasound use during the same period, despite research supporting it as an important diagnostic tool for assessing pediatric abdominal pain.

New data from a descriptive sub-analysis of patients with compensated liver cirrhosis show that up to 43 percent of genotype-1a (GT1a) and up to 71 percent of GT1b hepatitis C virus (HCV) patients achieved sustained viral response (SVR12). SVR12 has been highly correlated with SVR24, which is a recognized indicator of viral cure.
