NPAF applauds Congressional Democrats for supporting health insurance reform

The National Patient Advocate Foundation -- a national, non-profit organization dedicated to the mission of creating avenues of improved patient access to health care through public policy reform at the state and federal levels -- today praised Congressional Democrats for their courageous support of health insurance reform that will expand health insurance coverage and restrict the ability of insurance companies to deny coverage based on pre-existing conditions.

Approximately half of Americans living with colorectal cancer will develop liver metastases at some point during the course of their disease. Body size, gender and the complexity of heart disease significantly influence how much cumulative radiation skin dose that patients receive during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) therapy, also known as angioplasty, according to a new Mayo Clinic study. Vitamin D supplements might do more harm than good for African-American patients

Vitamin D is quickly becoming the "go-to" remedy for treating a wide range of illnesses, from osteoporosis to atherosclerosis. However, new evidence from a Wake Forest University School of Medicine study suggests that supplementing vitamin D in those with low levels may have different effects based on patient race and, in black individuals, the supplement could actually do harm.
