High intracoronary attenuation significantly improves diagnostic accuracy in 64-slice CT-CA of the coronary arteries

For the study, 170 patients with suspected coronary artery disease underwent CT-CA. The average vascular attenuation measured in the aortic root and in coronary arteries was used to divide the population into two groups of 85 patients each, one with low attenuations and one with high.

CTA correctly detected the ruptured aneurysm in 170 cases when compared to intraoperative findings, Bijal Patel, MD, lead author of the study. Of the 22 cases where there was more than one aneurysm, CTA correctly identified the ones that were ruptured every time.
