Upward trend for post-breast feeding breast augmentation procedures

The Harley Medical Group, Ireland's leading cosmetic surgery provider, has revealed breast surgery is top of the ops for the 23rd year running and the fastest growing sector of cosmetic surgery. The Harley Medical Group has seen a positive increase on last year's enquiries. While breast reductions are becoming more popular with an increasing number of Irish women reducing their breast size in order to achieve a more slender figure, breast augmentation continues to be the most popular procedure performed at THMG's Dublin clinic.

Report: There’s nothing wrong with cosmetic surgery but beware of specialist qualifications

The report, released by the UK’s National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death (NCEPOD), warns patients that cosmetic surgery has not yet been recognised as a medical specialty and they should not rely on the recognised specialist qualifications of practitioners who perform cosmetic procedures.

British scientists have claimed that a new gene called New Delhi metallo-beta-lactamase, or NDM-1 has emerged that makes the bacteria resistant to almost all antibiotics. India has rejected the claim that it is the source of this superbug. Cases have been detected in the UK and Australia and are on the rise in the UK.

Study examines cosmetic impact of surgical procedure for body dysmorphic disorder

A new study finds that while many who suffer from body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) seek cosmetic procedures, only two percent of procedures actually reduced the severity of BDD. Despite this poor long-term outcome, physicians continue to provide requested surgeries to people suffering from BDD. The study was recently published in Annals of Plastic Surgery.

Cytori Therapeutics received expanded European approval (CE Mark) for its Celution System, a medical device that extracts and separates stem and regenerative cells from a patient's own fat tissue.
