FDA's ODAC voted to review T315I mutation prior to approval of OMAPRO

ChemGenex Pharmaceuticals Limited announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Oncologic Drugs Advisory Committee voted 7-1 that a validated test to identify the T315I mutation should be reviewed by the FDA prior to approval of OMAPRO™ (omacetaxine mepesuccinate).

CT colonography screening identifies unsuspected cancer outside of colon

A new, large-scale study of more than 10,000 adults found that more than one in every 200 asymptomatic people screened with CT colonography, or virtual colonoscopy, had clinically unsuspected malignant cancer and more than half of the cancers were located outside the colon. The findings were published in the April issue of the journal Radiology.

Alliance Imaging to offer mobile PEM imaging services in the state of Florida

Naviscan announced today that Alliance Imaging, a division of Alliance Healthcare Services, will be offering mobile Positron Emission Mammography imaging services in the state of Florida. Alliance Imaging will be providing turnkey service which includes transporting the PEM scanner from site to site, a technologist to perform the scan and the necessary radiopharmaceutical, 18F-FDG.

Given Imaging to purchase Sierra Scientific Instruments from Water Street Healthcare Partners for $35M

Water Street Healthcare Partners, a leading private equity firm focused exclusively on health care, announced today that it has entered into a definitive agreement to sell its gastrodiagnostic device company, Sierra Scientific Instruments, to Given Imaging Ltd ( GIVN). Given Imaging, the global leader in patient-friendly GI diagnostic and monitoring solutions, will purchase the business for $35 million in cash. The transaction is expected to close in early April.

New WHO report estimates 440,000 MDR-TB cases worldwide in 2008

There were an estimated 440,000 cases of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) around the world in 2008 - one-third of which were fatal, according to a new WHO report on drug-resistant TB, the Los Angeles Times reports (Maugh, 3/19).

Fraunhofer FIT to present IMIKRID and automated protein-level microscope system at HANNOVER MESSE

Proteins, the cellular building blocks, can be visualized and analyzed in great detail today. Here, Fraunhofer FIT presents a fully automated high-performance microscope. One of its diagnostic applications will be to study the complex interactions of proteins between cells.
