Most common methods of delivery include the preferred non-invasive oral (through the mouth), nasal, pneumonial (inhalation), and rectal routes. Much research is now focussing on nanotechnology as a drug delivery method.

Macuclear and Mystic announce groundbreaking results from Phase Ib Clinical Trial for Macular Degeneration

MacuCLEAR, Inc. and Mystic Pharmaceuticals, Inc., announced today preliminary successful results of a Phase Ib Clinical Trial for the treatment and prevention of the progression of Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). The preliminary results indicated that MacuCLEAR’s MC-1101 drug is safe and well tolerated by study participants, and has a biological effect on blood flow in the back of the retina.

Impax Laboratories settles FLOMAX litigation, to launch generic tamsulosin hydrochloride product

Impax Laboratories, Inc. today announced that it has reached agreement with Astellas Pharma Inc. and Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. to settle pending U.S. litigation with regard to US Patent No. 4,703,063 for FLOMAX® (generic name: tamsulosin hydrochloride) capsules through the entry of a consent judgment confirming the validity and infringement of the patent. FLOMAX® is a treatment for the functional symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Baxter launches HYLENEX recombinant for pediatric rehydration at the 2009 ACEP

Baxter International Inc. today announced the commercial launch of HYLENEX recombinant (hyaluronidase human injection) for use in pediatric rehydration at the 2009 American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) scientific assembly (Boston). HYLENEX, an enzyme, allows fluids to be administered under the skin (subcutaneously) rather than through a vein.
