EpiPen (epinephrine) emergency kits now available at Montreal Bell Centre for treating severe allergies

Pfizer Canada Inc., the distributor of EpiPen, and the Montreal Bell Centre are pleased to announce that EpiPen (epinephrine) emergency kits are now available at the Bell Centre, home of the Montreal Canadiens hockey team. The new partnership strives to offer a safeguarded environment for visitors at risk of serious allergic reactions during hockey games, concerts and other entertainment events.

UL GEMS students host third annual Teddy Bear Hospital event for primary school children

Medical School students at the University of Limerick today hosted the University’s annual Teddy Bear Hospital (TBH) with over 400 Limerick’s primary school children from 6 different schools and their teddy bears. The aim of the event, which has been organised by six current Graduate Entry Medical School (GEMS) students with a particular interest in childhood medicine, is to alleviate childhood anxiety about the medical environment, its procedures and the professionals that work within it.

Nanogel heals burn wounds faster

Researchers at the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology have developed a nanogel that can accelerate the healing of burn wounds to minimize the risk of infection and scarring. The technology is based on IBN’s proprietary self-assembling ultrashort peptide technology, which are short sequences of amino acids.

Blood pressure monitors, pain relief products and first-aid products are FSA eligible expenses

Each year, more than $400 million in tax-free income is wasted when flexible spending account (FSA) holders don't spend FSA funds, or fail to submit expenses to be reimbursed by an FSA. While recent U.S. Treasury Department changes give employers the option to offer a rollover of up to $500 each year in unused FSA funds, a recent FSAstore.com survey of its benefit administrator partners found that 66 percent of employers are expected to wait until next year to amend their FSA plans.

American scientists introduce novel gel for sealing wounds

In first-aid situations, wounds must be quickly and effectively closed to stop blood loss and prevent infection. For treatment on arrival in a hospital, the temporary seal must be reopened, which often causes additional damage to the injured tissue. In the journal Angewandte Chemie, American scientists have now introduced a novel gel for sealing wounds. The gel can later be dissolved and gently removed.
