Global Health Partner acquires Stockholm Gastro Center

Global Health Partner (STO:GHP) has acquired Stockholm Gastro Center, a specialist clinic with operations within medical gastroenterology and endoscopy located at Sophiahemmet in Stockholm. "The acquisition of Stockholm Gastro Center is a good complement to the obesity surgery business that we run at Kirurgkliniken and Bariatric Center Stockholm in Sophiahemmet's facilities. This is a combination of businesses that we also have at our clinics in Lund and Prague and where we see good coordination and expansion opportunities," says Per Båtelson, Global Health Partner's CEO.

Warner Chilcott subsidiaries to issue $500 million of 7-3/4% senior notes in private placement

Warner Chilcott plc today announced that its subsidiaries, Warner Chilcott Company, LLC and Warner Chilcott Finance LLC (together, the "Issuers"), plan to issue an aggregate principal amount of $500 million of 7-3/4% senior notes due 2018 (the "Notes") in a private placement. The notes are additional notes constituting a part of the same series as the $750 million aggregate principal amount of 7-3/4% senior notes due 2018 issued on August 20, 2010.

Warner Chilcott to acquire U.S. rights to Enablex from Novartis for $400 million

Warner Chilcott plc today announced that it has agreed to terminate its existing co-promotion agreement with Novartis and signed a definitive agreement to purchase the U.S. rights to Enablex® from Novartis for $400 million in cash. Enablex (darifenacin) is a product indicated to treat adults with symptoms of overactive bladder, which had U.S. sales of approximately $190 million for the year ended December 31, 2009.

Study observes enteral nutrition outcome in patients with severe acute pancreatitis

Severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) requires an adequate nutritional support. Enteral nutrition (EN) should be preferred to total parenteral nutrition in patients with SAP, as it is associated with reduced mortality and complications. However, in clinical practice EN is employed far less frequently than it should. The main obstacle to EN diffusion is that it is considered complicated, as to ensure full pancreatic rest, nutrition tubes should be placed in the jejunum, requiring often troublesome procedures. In the past few years, it has been proposed that EN through nasogastric (NG) tubes may be a simple, safe and equally valid alternative to nasojejunal tubes.

New interventional technique effective for controlling hepatic arterial hemorrhage after PD

Delayed hepatic arterial hemorrhage after pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) is not a common but a fatal complication, occurring in 7% of all patients. Its ideal management remains unclear and controversial. A research article published on August 7, 2010 in the World Journal of Gastroenterology addresses this question. The authors reported the clinical outcome of 9 patients with life-threatening hemorrhage from a ruptured hepatic artery pseudoaneurysm after PD after treatment with a new interventional technique, namely placement of stent-grafts.

IASIS Healthcare signs agreement to acquire Brim Holdings

IASIS Healthcare today announced the signing of a definitive agreement to acquire Brim Holdings, Inc., which operates Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana, Texas, and Pikes Peak Regional Hospital in Woodland Park, Colorado, in a cash-for-stock transaction valued at approximately $95 million, subject to customary closing conditions and working capital adjustments. Combined revenue of the two facilities is approximately $120 million.
