CryoLife purchases patent involving formulation, use of recombinant human serum albumin and gluteraldehyde

CryoLife, Inc., an implantable biological medical device and cardiovascular tissue processing company whose products include BioGlue Surgical Adhesive, announced today that it has completed the purchase of U.S. patent # 6,329,337. The patent involves the formulation and use of recombinant human serum albumin and gluteraldehyde, and now becomes part of CryoLife's protein hydrogel patent portfolio, which includes BioGlue.

Landec announces acquisition of Lifecore Biomedical from Warburg Pincus Private Equity

Landec Corporation, a materials science company that develops and markets patented polymer products for food, agriculture, personal care and drug delivery applications, today announced that it has acquired Lifecore Biomedical, Inc. from Warburg Pincus Private Equity IX, LP. When acquired by Warburg Pincus in March 2008, Lifecore was comprised of two divisions, the Dental Division and the Hyaluronan Division. The Dental Division was merged into a Warburg Pincus portfolio company.

While 85 percent of Americans recognize that ultraviolet rays can damage their eyes, only 65 percent wear sunglasses as protection, and even fewer (39 percent) make sure their children wear sunglasses. By comparison, 78 percent make sure their children wear sunscreen when outdoors.

The Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF) and the Association for Frontotemporal Dementias (AFTD) announced today the recipients of their third annual research award, Frontotemporal Dementia Drug Discovery Program. Scientists working on a treatment for babies born with cleft palates have made a promising breakthrough and the first clinical trials are planned for early next year.
