Lexicon announces top-line results from initial Phase 2 study of LX1033 for treatment of IBS-d

Lexicon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced top-line results from an initial Phase 2 study exploring the use of LX1033 in diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome. LX1033 is an investigational drug that inhibits serotonin synthesis in the gastrointestinal tract. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that has been shown to play a role in the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome.

Patients with IBS-D treated with eluxadoline achieve better clinical response

Patients with diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome, or IBS-D, treated with eluxadoline achieved better clinical response and experienced more symptom improvement than those using placebo, according to a recent study in Gastroenterology, the official journal of the American Gastroenterological Association. Eluxadoline, which is currently in phase 3 trials, is under development as a potential treatment for IBS-D.

Changes in specific proteins contribute to 'leaky-gut' wall

Sucampo Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that the Company received a supplement approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that removes pregnancy "warnings and precautions" and clarifies information regarding the use of AMITIZA (lubiprostone) by pregnant and/or nursing women.
