University of Delaware psychology student wins NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award

Amber J. Belcher, a doctoral student in psychology at the University of Delaware, has won the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The fellowship will support Belcher's research on how couples cope with breast cancer.

National Dentex reports net income of $429,000 for fourth-quarter of 2009

For the fourth quarter of 2009, National Dentex reported sales of $38,174,000, which was 7.5% lower than the fourth quarter sales in 2008 of $41,264,000. Net income for the quarter was $429,000, or $.07 per diluted share, compared to a net loss of $5,286,000, or a loss of $.93 per diluted share in 2008.

IVAX Diagnostics, Inc., a fully integrated global in vitro diagnostics company, announced that Diamedix Corporation has signed a distribution agreement with Fumouze Diagnostics, a division of Sofibel S.A.S., of Paris, France, pursuant to which Fumouze Diagnostics will be the exclusive third party distributor of Diamedix Corporation and Delta Biologicals S.r.l.’s suite of diagnostic tests in France. Diamedix is a U.S. subsidiary of IVAX Diagnostics and Delta Biologicals is IVAX Diagnostics’ subsidiary located in Italy. The initial term of the distribution agreement is three years.

Mosaic vaccines show promise in reducing HIV spread

Two teams of researchers-including Los Alamos National Laboratory theoretical biologists Bette Korber, Will Fischer, Sydeaka Watson, and James Szinger-have announced an HIV vaccination strategy that has been shown to expand the breadth and depth of immune responses in rhesus monkeys. Rhesus monkeys provide the best animal model currently available for testing HIV vaccines.
