It Starts with the Heart: Community initiative launched to support not-for-profits of all sizes

Health Diagnostic Laboratory Inc. (HDL, Inc.), www.hdlabinc.com, has launched a community initiative known as It Starts with the Heart, a company-wide commitment to support not-for-profits of all sizes in making a difference in their community.  

HDL, Inc. will direct its first in a series of random acts of kindness to Medical Home Plus.  A Richmond based nonprofit, Medical Home Plus is dedicated to helping children with special needs and their families by linking them to education and resources.  On March 24, 2010, HDL, Inc. will present a check for $20,000 to Medical Home Plus at a dinner open to the public at Cafe Mosaic, a heart healthy restaurant in Richmond, Virginia.

"Recently our lab has brought physicians, researchers, and leaders in disease management to live in the Richmond community," explained Tonya Mallory, president and CEO, HDL, Inc., headquartered in the Virginia BioTechnology Research Park.  "While many of our team members are new to Richmond, they want to make a difference in their neighborhoods."  

It Starts with the Heart is an initiative in which HDL, Inc. will demonstrate corporate giving through both financial contribution and volunteering with local organizations. Medical Home Plus is dedicated to improving the quality of life for Virginia families and children with special health care needs.  It is founded, managed and staffed by licensed healthcare professionals, nearly all of whom are parents of children with special health care needs themselves.

"Medical Home Plus represents the spirit of HDL, Inc.'s initiative, It Starts with the Heart.  Each of the volunteers and partners at Medical Home Plus are offering their time and in many cases their medical skills to others," said Mallory.  "The spirit of giving, coupled with the desire to make the community happier and healthier, represented by Medical Home Plus, is the very motivation behind everything we do at HDL, Inc."
