DNA methylation - a modification of DNA linked to gene regulation - is altered with increasing severity in a blood cancer called multiple myeloma, according to a study by Mayo Clinic and the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen).

FDA grants ArthroCare marketing clearance for Parallax Contour Vertebral Augmentation Device

Cylene commences CX-4945 Phase I trial in multiple myeloma

Cylene Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced today the initiation of a Phase I clinical trial of their first-in-class, oral CK2 inhibitor CX-4945 in patients with multiple myeloma. Researchers find risk prediction model for VTE in cancer patients

IMF and CHPF join to promote awareness of myeloma in China

The International Myeloma Foundation (IMF), the oldest and largest foundation dedicated to improving the life and care of myeloma patients, today announced plans to sign a cooperative agreement with the Chinese Health Promotion Foundation (CHPF), an agency that operates under the Chinese Ministry of Health, to promote awareness of myeloma in China and to encourage measures to prevent and combat the disease.

Onyx enters commercialization agreement with Ono for carfilzomib and ONX 0912 development program

Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that it has entered into an exclusive agreement with Ono Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. to develop and commercialize two compounds from Onyx's proteasome inhibitor development program, carfilzomib and ONX 0912. Under the terms of the agreement, Ono has exclusive rights to develop and commercialize both compounds for all oncology indications in Japan.

Celgene receives Japan's MHLW approval for REVLIMID in deletion 5q myelodysplastic syndrome patients

Celgene International Sàrl announced that REVLIMID (lenalidomide) has been granted full marketing authorization by Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) for the treatment of patients with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) associated with a deletion 5q cytogenic abnormality. REVLIMID was also approved in June 2010 in combination with dexamethasone, for the treatment of patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma who have received at least one prior standard therapy.

Astex and MMRC commence Phase II clinical trial of AT7519 CDK inhibitor in multiple myeloma

Astex Therapeutics, the UK-based biotechnology company developing targeted therapies for oncology and virology, and the Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium announced today the initiation of a Phase II clinical trial of the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor, AT7519, to treat patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma, an incurable blood cancer. The trial is designed to investigate both single agent and combination activity of AT7519 with bortezomib (Velcade®).
