In a study published in the European Heart Journal, a research team at Ume- University, Sweden, has shown that physical fitness in your teens can reduce the risk of heart attack later in life, while men who are fit and obese in their teens run a higher risk of having a heart attack than unfit, lean men.

High aerobic fitness in late adolescence may reduce heart attack risk later in life

Researchers in Sweden have found an association between a person’s fitness as a teenager and their risk of heart attack in later life. In a study of nearly 750,000 men, they found that the more aerobically fit men were in late adolescence, the less likely they were to have a heart attack 30 or 40 years later.

ILiAD, Inserm and IPL sign worldwide license agreement for Bordetella pertussis vaccine technology

ILiAD Biotechnologies, LLC, the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research subsidiary, Inserm Transfert SA, and Institut Pasteur de Lille today announced the signing of scientific collaboration and worldwide license agreements for live attenuated Bordetella pertussis vaccine technology, including BPZE1, developed by the laboratory of Professor Camille Locht. This license agreement covers patent rights from Institut Pasteur de Lille, Inserm, National University of Singapore and National University of Ireland Maynooth.

More than a dozen states have passed legislation expanding the role of nurse practitioners (NPs) so they can help fill the shortage of primary care providers in the U.S. But a new study from Columbia University School of Nursing, published in the Journal of Professional Nursing, suggests that the organization and culture in health care settings often impedes the full utilization of NPs so that state laws expanding scope of practice may not be sufficient to relieve the nation's primary care crisis.
