Isotechnika, Paladin receive screening acceptance for Voclera for approval in Canada

Isotechnika Pharma Inc. and Paladin Labs Inc. announced today that they have submitted the dossier and received screening acceptance for VocleraTM (voclosporin) for approval in the Canadian market. VocleraTM is a novel immunosuppressive drug in the class of calcineurin inhibitors and is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe psoriasis.

HIV patient cured!

German researchers working with stem cell therapy have claimed they have cured an American patient with HIV and leukemia. Experts are wary of accepting the development at its face value and caution that there is a need for further research. Dr David Scadden, a co-director of the Harvard University Stem Cell Institute added, “Cured is a strong word. But this is very encouraging… from all indications, there was no residual virus… It’s as good an outcome as one could hope for.”

Orthofix settles Trinity Evolution patent infringement suit with NuVasive and Osiris

Orthofix International N.V. today announced an internal reorganization designed to streamline operations within its three Global Business Units: Spine, Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. The Company expects to record a charge related to employee termination benefits of approximately $4.0 million ($2.4 million net of tax, or $0.13 per diluted share) in the fourth quarter of 2010 in connection with the reorganization.

Ocera completes two studies of OCR-002 in patients with hyperammonemia, hepatic encephalopathy

Ocera Therapeutics, Inc. announced today that it has completed two studies evaluating the safety and pharmacokinetics of OCR-002 (ornithine phenylacetate) which includes healthy volunteers and patients with liver cirrhosis. CMS increases reimbursement rate for Cylex's immune cell function assay by 267%

Cylex Incorporated® today announced that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) nearly tripled the reimbursement for ImmuKnow®, the immune cell function assay FDA-cleared for the detection of cell-mediated immune response in populations undergoing immunosuppressive therapy for organ transplant.
