BSD MTX-180 MicroThermX Microwave Ablation System receives CE Mark approval

BSD Medical Corporation, the company that pioneered heat therapy applications, today reported that the Company has received CE Mark approval for the commercial sale of The MicroThermX Microwave Ablation System (MTX-180) in Europe. CE marking approval allows BSD to market the MTX-180 in the 30 countries that comprise the European Union (EU) and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).

More effective therapeutic exercises underutilized in treatment of chronic neck pain

Duke University and University of North Carolina (UNC) researchers report in the November issue of Arthritis Care & Research that narcotics and diagnostic testing are overused in treating chronic neck pain. Their findings indicate clinicians may overlook more effective treatments for neck pain, such as therapeutic exercise. According to reviews cited in the study, evidence to support the effectiveness of therapeutic exercise in treating chronic neck pain is good, yet only 53% of subjects were prescribed such exercise.

Under the influence of heat shocks of 45°C, skin cells produce more collagen. This is the protein that gives the skin its firmness and elasticity. Susanne Dams describes this process in the dissertation for which she gained her PhD degree from the Biomedical Engineering Department at TU/e.
