Asuragen announces results of study evaluating RNA-based assay for detection of common NPM1 mutations

Asuragen, Inc. announced today the results of a collaborative study with scientists at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine evaluating a RNA-based assay for the rapid, sensitive and multiplex detection of common NPM1 mutations. The study results were published in the September issue of the Journal of Molecular Diagnostics.

Diagenode releases two monoclonal antibodies to enrich 5-hmC epigenetics research

Diagenode announced today that it has released two additional 5-hmC antibodies to complement its original 5-hmC (rat) monoclonal antibody. The two new 5-hmC monoclonal antibody (mouse) and polyclonal antibody (rabbit) antibodies give researchers additional choices for enriching and analyzing 5-hmC in their methylation studies.

Health Canada issues license for IgX PLEX Celiac test kit

SQI Diagnostics Inc., a medical systems automation company focused on evolving laboratory-based biomarker testing, announced today that Health Canada has issued a medical device license for its automated IgX PLEX Celiac(TM) microarray test kit that runs on the Company's automated SQiDworks(TM) platform. Dominion validates clinical urine drug monitoring assay to detect metabolites of 'herbal incense' product compounds

Celldex commences CDX-011 Phase 2b trial in advanced breast cancer patients expressing GPNMB

Celldex Therapeutics, Inc. today announced that the first patient has been treated in a randomized Phase 2b study of the Company's CDX-011 (glembatumumab vedotin) antibody drug conjugate in glycoprotein NMB (GPNMB) expressing advanced, refractory breast cancer patients. CDX-011 targets the protein GPNMB, which is over expressed in a variety of cancers including breast cancer, melanoma, and brain tumors.

Abbott to commercialize Celera's CE-marked KIF6 genotyping assay outside U.S.

Celera Corporation and Abbott today announced that they have signed an exclusive distribution agreement to market Celera's CE-marked KIF6 diagnostic test for use on Abbott's CE-marked m2000™ instrument system. The KIF6 genotyping assay detects a genetic marker that may be used in conjunction with clinical evaluation and patient assessment for the identification of individuals at risk for coronary heart disease (CHD), and in patients for whom statin treatment is being considered.

Chronix Biomedical completes Series E financing

Chronix Biomedical today announced that it has completed a Series E financing that raised $1.8 million from existing and new investors. Chronix is developing disease-specific biomarkers based on DNA fragments that are released into the bloodstream by damaged and dying (apoptotic) cells. Chronix's serum DNA biomarkers are applicable to a wide range of cancers and other chronic diseases.

RAB-1 monoclonal antibody study shows positive result for rabies

With the potential to save tens of thousands of lives each year, a new cost-effective rabies therapy developed by MassBiologics at the University of Massachusetts and the Serum Institute of India took an important step forward with positive results from a Phase 1 study. The recently completed study showed that a new monoclonal antibody (RAB-1) resulted in protective antibody levels in the serum of treated subjects equal to the current standard of treatment, which is often not available in the areas of the world hit hardest by rabies.

COPAN announced this week that it has received the Japanese patent for the invention of flocked swabs, FLOQSwabs, for collection and transfer of biological samples. The Japanese flocked swabs patent (2007-523663) is the latest addition to a growing number of patents held by COPAN across the world for the use of flocked swabs for collection and transfer of biological samples, including the Australian patent (2004226798) granted earlier this year, a European patent that covers several countries (1608268), a Canadian patent (2515205), and New Zealand patent (541560).
