Plasmid containing Sindbis replicase genes can destruct lung cancer

Alpha viruses, such as Sindbis virus, carry their genetic information on a single strand of RNA. On infection they use a protein, replicase, to produce double stranded RNA which is used as genetic material to make more viruses. However the body recognizes dsRNA as foreign, and infected cells initiate an immune response.

Cephalon to acquire Gemin X Pharmaceuticals

Cephalon, Inc. announced today that it has signed a definitive merger agreement under which it will acquire all of the outstanding capital stock of Gemin X Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a privately-held biopharmaceutical company developing first-in-class cancer therapeutics, for $225 million cash on a cash-free, debt-free basis. Gemin X stockholders could also receive up to $300 million in cash payments upon the achievement of certain regulatory and sales milestones.

PsiOxus Therapeutics, Ltd. announced initiation of a Phase II study of MT-102, a small molecule therapeutic for the treatment of cancer- and age-related wasting. Caspase inhibition can prevent brain inflammation in neurological diseases
