Perrigo to sell its Israel Consumer Products business to Emilia Group

Perrigo Company today announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to sell its Israel Consumer Products business along with the related production assets in Israel to Emilia Group, a subsidiary of O. Feller Holdings Ltd., for 205 million New Israeli Shekels (approximately $54 million).

NSF awards $3 million grant for establishing a Partnership in Research and Education in Materials

Professor Morris is principal investigator on a new, five-year $3 million National Science Foundation (NSF) grant that establishes a Partnership in Research and Education in Materials (PREM) at CCNY in collaboration with the University of Chicago's Materials Research Science and Engineering Center. The "overarching goal of the partnership is to develop methodology for description of material dynamics" as an emerging branch of materials science.

A new report by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics reveals that popular children's face paints contain lead, a potent neurotoxin, as well as nickel, cobalt and chromium, which can cause lifelong skin sensitization and contact dermatitis.

Buying decorative lenses without a prescription is dangerous, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology (Academy) warns consumers that purchasing or wearing these contact lenses improperly can cause serious eye disorders and infections.

Financial update from Gerresheimer

In the first nine months of the financial year (December 2008 - August 2009), Gerresheimer AG achieved sales of EUR 744.3m (prior year EUR 783.4m). Excluding the Technical Plastics business which has been sold, sales totaled EUR 714.9m, a reduction of 1.7% compared with the prior year. The corresponding operating margin (adjusted EBITDA) for the first three quarters continued on a high level at 17.9%.

Nanobio hybrids for brain cancer therapy

In an advance toward better treatments for the most serious form of brain cancer, scientists in Illinois are reporting development of the first nanoparticles that seek out and destroy brain cancer cells without damaging nearby healthy cells.
