NIH grants over $3.8 million to Asuragen

Asuragen, Inc. announced today that it has received over $3.8 million in new grant funding for 2009 from the Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR), Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR), and American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funded initiatives of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to further its development of molecular diagnostics for oncology and genetic disease.

LiveData awarded a SBIR grant for integrating medical technologies

LiveData, Inc., a leader in real-time data integration and display, has been awarded a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research grant from the U.S. Army Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC). LiveData will use the $730,000 grant to develop an integrated clinical environment with CIMIT’s Medical Device Plug-and-Play (MD PnP) team.

NCI awards BioMarker Strategies a SBIR contract to develop its SnapPath live-tumor-cell testing system

BioMarker Strategies, LLC announced today that it has been awarded a Fast-Track Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract from the National Cancer Institute to develop the SnapPath™ live-tumor-cell testing system. BioMarker Strategies is developing the SnapPath™ system to enable oncologists to determine the most effective drug treatment for their cancer patients.

The 2008 IBI Benchmarking database compares how employers' lost-time programs perform against others in their industry.

Stereotactic Radiosurgery for metastatic brain tumors reduces risks of learning and memory problems

Cancer patients who receive stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and whole brain radiation therapy (WBRT) for the treatment of metastatic brain tumors have more than twice the risk of developing learning and memory problems than those treated with SRS alone, according to researchers at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.
