AmerisourceBergen Corporation today reported that in its fiscal year 2009 fourth quarter ended September 30, 2009, diluted earnings per share were $0.44, a 22 percent increase, and revenue increased 9 percent to a record $18.7 billion. Earnings per share and other share-related data reflect the Company’s June 2009 two-for-one stock split.

Health care lobbyists spend big to win big, consumer groups fight industry deals

Health care lobbyists are on track to set new spending records this year, with some individual companies nearly doubling their investment compared to previous periods, USA Today reports. The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America spent almost as much by September as it did in the entire year in 2008. America's Health Insurance Plans has spent $1 million more so far this year than over the same period last year (Schouten, 10/21).

SEC completes investigation of PharmaNet Development, no action recommended

PharmaNet Development Group, Inc., a leading provider of clinical development services to innovative pharmaceutical, biotechnology, generic drug and medical device companies, today announced that the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has notified the Company that it has completed a two and half year investigation of the Company related to revenue recognition, earnings, company operations and related party transactions and does not intend to recommend any enforcement action by the Commission. The investigation, which is now closed, was originally initiated as an informal investigation in 2006 and became formal in March 2007.

LA BioMed granted $1.3M for investigating ESAI's KRONOS IV in correcting erectile dysfunction

A recent CIGNA survey of consumers across the country found that employees at small companies are more likely than those employed by larger companies to look for ways to save money on prescription drugs. The same study found that 60 percent of consumers are willing to spend 30 minutes on a Web site comparing costs and services if it will save them $100.

AMRI files two new patent infringement lawsuits

AMRI announced today that it has filed two new patent infringement lawsuits in U.S. District Court in New Jersey against Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, Ltd., Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, Inc. and Sandoz, Inc. (“the defendants”) for infringement of AMRI’s U.S. Patent Number 7,390,906. The recently issued patent relates to the manufacturing process for the active ingredient in sanofi-aventis’s Allegra and AllegraD drug products.
