Amerigroup expands services to seniors, people with disabilities in Tarrant County

Amerigroup Corporation today announced that its Texas health plan has won its bid to expand health care coverage to seniors and people with disabilities in Tarrant County (Fort Worth). The award was announced by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). It came as the result of a competitive two-region bidding process that increases the role of Amerigroup's Texas subsidiary in the STAR+PLUS program.

The George Washington University Board of Trustees approve formation of GW School of Nursing

Today, The George Washington University Board of Trustees voted to approve the formation of the GW School of Nursing. The nursing school will be composed of the Master of Science in Nursing programs, the Doctor of Nursing Practice program, the second degree Bachelor of Science in nursing program, and other post-masters certificate programs.

The Impact Of Removing Financial Incentives From Clinical Quality Indicators: Longitudinal Analysis Of Four Kaiser Permanente Indicators - The researchers found the removal of pay-for-performance incentives "was associated with a decrease in performance of about 3% per year on average for screening for diabetic retinopathy and about 1.6% per year for cervical cancer screening" (Lester et al., 5/11). Only the U.S. Congress can stop this imminent Medicare meltdown. Permanent repeal of the broken [doctor] payment formula that creates this whopping cut will preserve access to care for Texas' Medicare and TRICARE patients. VNA receives grant award to enhance Wound Care Program

The Visiting Nurse Association of Greater Philadelphia has received a grant award from the First Hospital Foundation in the amount of $40,000. The grant will be used to enhance the VNA's Wound Care Program and will enable the agency to purchase digital cameras so the home visiting clinicians can document patients wound progression and improve wound care delivery.

After Republicans levied attacks on Donald Berwick, the physician and professor President Barack Obama has nominated to lead the Medicare agency, Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., came to the aide of his fellow Bay Stater, The Boston Globe reports. He said, "It's no secret that the national Republican Party has tried to crank up the attack machine and make his nomination a distorted referendum on reform.
