University of Kentucky alumni generate $6.3 billion into Kentucky's economy

In total, 2,730 University of Kentucky College of Medicine alumni are currently practicing across the Commonwealth, generating $6.3 billion annually into Kentucky's economy and creating at least 49,140 jobs, according to UK's Office of Health Research and Development.

Cornerstone: UMass Memorial Health Care's multi-year, multi-entity EMR integration project

UMDNJ-University Hospital among top five academic medical centers for heart failure treatment

Patients treated at UMDNJ-University Hospital for heart failure receive some of the best care in the nation, according to newly released rankings. The data, from the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC), place the hospital among the top five academic medical centers in the nation for treating heart failure patients with recommended care. This care was measured in the areas of discharge instructions, appropriate prescriptions of heart failure medications at discharge, evaluation of left heart function, and adult smoking cessation advice/counseling.

Fully integrated medical curriculum proves beneficial for minority students

Of all the licensing exams along the way to becoming an M.D., the Step 1 is notorious for having the worst national passage rate. By adopting a fully integrated medical curriculum in lieu of the traditional academic model, the University of Texas Medical Branch has seen a dramatic drop over the course of a decade in the failure rate, with underrepresented minority students benefiting the most, according to new research that will be presented April 30, 2010 at the annual meeting of the American Educational Research Association.

Biologists have long known that an enzyme called the PI 3-kinase is a crucial actor in the main molecular pathway for insulin signaling in cells.
