New scalable solutions for targeted re-sequencing studies from febit holding and Life Technologies

febit holding GmbH and Life Technologies Corporation today announced that they have entered into a strategic co-marketing agreement to provide a new, scalable solution for researchers conducting targeted re-sequencing studies. In addition, febit will expand its Genomic Services Facility at Heidelberg by adding several Applied Biosystems SOLiD™ high-throughput sequencing systems and real-time PCR systems.

G20 draft communique addresses agricultural investment in developing countries, 'influential women' raise awareness for maternal mortality

A draft G20 communique revealed Friday that the group of countries "has called on the World Bank to work with donor agencies to create a multilateral trust fund to increase agricultural investment in poor countries," Reuters reports. In July, the G8 launched a $20 billion agriculture initiative to help developing countries.

Prevention and cure of Alzheimer's disease important to Americans

A new voter survey sponsored by the ACT-AD Coalition (Accelerate Cure/Treatments for Alzheimer's Disease) finds that three-quarters of Americans nationwide and across party lines say it is personally important to them to find a cure or to prevent Alzheimer's disease, while a similar proportion of the national electorate say they look to Congress to make it "a national priority" to speed up the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) review process in specific ways for therapies that slow, halt or reverse the disease.

Octapharma AG submits Biological License Application for its octagam(R) 10% to FDA

Octapharma AG recently submitted its Biological License Application for octagam(R) 10% (human normal intravenous immunoglobulin, liquid) to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) with the goal of expanding the biopharmaceutical company's U.S. immune globulin therapy portfolio by early 2010. The application was submitted for the treatment of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a blood-clotting disorder that can result in excessive bruising and bleeding.

Court rules in favor of Eli Lilly for Evista's method-of-use patents

The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana today upheld Eli Lilly and Company's (NYSE: LLY) method-of-use patents on Evista(R) (raloxifene HCl tablets). In the case of Eli Lilly and Company v. Teva Pharmaceuticals Industries Ltd., the court ruled in favor of Lilly on all accounts for these method-of-use patents, including the patent doctrines of obviousness, enablement, and inequitable conduct.
