Study finds 18% of pediatric patients at-risk for sleep-related breathing disorders

According to new research that will be presented on Saturday, June 5, at the 19th Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, an estimated 18 percent of pediatric patients in a University of North Carolina-based study were at-risk for sleep-related breathing disorders (SRBD). Importantly, pediatric risk was not associated with any demographic or craniofacial characteristics, as it is in adults, making it difficult to detect.

New research: Questionnaires can help dentists screen for SDB in pediatric population

According to new research that will receive the Graduate Student Research Award on Saturday, June 5, at the 19th Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, questionnaires can help dentists screen for sleep-disordered breathing in a pediatric population. SDB includes obstructive sleep apnea, upper-airway resistance syndrome, and snoring.

DENTSPLY International reports 7.7% increase in first-quarter 2010 net sales

DENTSPLY International Inc. today announced sales and earnings for the three months ended March 31, 2010. Net sales in the first quarter of 2010 increased 7.7% to $545.9 million compared to $506.9 million reported for the first quarter of 2009.

NIDCR awards Selenium $912,943 grant for development of antimicrobial dental devices and water lines

The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), one of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), has issued a two-year $912,943 grant to biopharmaceutical company Selenium, Ltd. to support the development of antimicrobial dental devices and water lines. In the two-part grant the NIH has approved $492,972 for year one and $419,971 for year two dependent on achieving year one objectives.
