ADDF awards $210,300 to Amicus Therapeutics to evaluate PCs for treating Alzheimer's disease

The Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation announced today that it has awarded a grant of $210,300 to Amicus Therapeutics (Cranbury, NJ) to evaluate small-molecule, orally delivered pharmacological chaperone compounds as a novel approach for treating Alzheimer's disease.

Genzyme to initiate $2 billion stock buyback

Genzyme Corp. today announced that its Board of Directors has voted to pursue several actions to increase shareholder value. The company will initiate a $2 billion stock buyback, under which $1 billion of stock will be repurchased in the near term and financed with debt. The additional $1 billion of stock will be repurchased during the next 12 months.

Amorfix Life Sciences, a company focused on treatments and diagnostics for misfolded protein diseases such as Alzheimer's disease (AD), announced today the detection of the AD-associated aggregated Beta-amyloid (ABeta), the hallmark of AD, in the blood from the most-frequently-used animal model of AD. IRX Therapeutics and Japan's NCRC collaborate to evaluate peptide-based cancer vaccines

IRX Therapeutics, a developer of novel immunomodulators to treat cancer and viral diseases, today announced that it has established a strategic collaboration with Japan's National Cancer Research Center (NCRC) to evaluate next-generation peptide-based cancer vaccines. Incorporation of NexACT technology helps reduce dose of Å6 compound for ovarian cancer treatment

NexMed, Inc., a specialty CRO with a pipeline of products based on the NexACT® technology, today announced that results from a pre-clinical study showed significant improvement in the delivery and half life of Å6, a proprietary peptide treatment for ovarian cancer currently in Phase 2 development by Angstrom Pharmaceuticals. Specifically, the incorporation of NexACT® enabled the dose of Å6 to be cut by half, or from twice per day to once per day delivered subcutaneously, while achieving the same level of efficacy in the mouse lung metastasis model.

Roche announces results of phase III T-emerge 3 study of taspoglutide in diabetics

Ipsen, a global biopharmaceutical group, today announced that its partner Roche has disclosed results of the phase III T-emerge 3 study in patients with diabetes with taspoglutide, the first once weekly glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) analogue based on a human sequence. Taspoglutide originating from Ipsen's research is developed by Roche.
