New CZT-based cardiac nuclear imaging system now at Mount Sinai Medical Center

The Mount Sinai Medical Center has become the first in the United States to commercially use a new cardiac nuclear imaging system by GE Healthcare, a cadmium zinc telluride (CZT)-based high-speed, high-resolution camera that drastically reduces imaging time for patients while also reducing radiation exposure compared to previously used technologies.

U-M Medical School researchers earn $366M in NIH research funding in fiscal year 2009

University of Michigan Medical School physicians and scientists earned more than $366 million in National Institutes of Health research funding in federal fiscal year 2009, according to NIH data. In all, the School's faculty brought in more than $435 million in research funding from all sources in U-M fiscal year 2009.

Broken heart disease affects women in post menopause period

It seems an infarction, but it's not. It's called Tako-Tsubo syndrome, or stress-induced cardiomyopathy, and it's a rare disease which at first used to be confused with the far more common (and dangerous) cardiac infarction. Patients arrive to the emergency room with the characteristic heart attack symptoms: acute pain in the chest, an electrocardiogram with the typical changes and the release of those enzymes associated with the usual heart disease.

Sagent Pharmaceuticals raises $40M through Series B financing

Sagent Pharmaceuticals, a privately held specialty pharmaceutical company, announced today that it has raised $40 million through two tranches of a strategic Series B financing. In this round, a $10 million investment was made by Zhejiang Hisun Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. (Hisun), and the remaining $30 million was contributed by an unnamed China-focused private equity investment fund. To date, including this financing, Sagent has raised $153 million in equity capital.
