Climate change can cause major impact on global mental health

Leading mental health researchers are warning that some of the most important health consequences of climate change will be on mental health, yet this issue is unlikely to be given much attention at the UN climate change conference in Copenhagen next week.

Usefulness of heart rate variability as a diagnostic for identifying dysfunction established

According to Dr. Daniel Weiss, a recent study of heart rate autonomic markers, and cardiac mortality published in the November issue of Heart Rhythm provides additional support for the usefulness of heart rate variability as a diagnostic for identifying dysfunction (neuropathy in diabetics and others) and cardiovascular mortality, including fatal arrhythmia or sudden cardiac death.

Stryker Corporation announced today that its Board of Directors has authorized the Company to repurchase up to $750 million of its common stock. The manner, timing and amount of any purchases will be determined by the Company's management based on their evaluation of market conditions, stock price and other factors and will be subject to regulatory considerations. Purchases may be made from time to time in the open market, in privately negotiated transactions or otherwise.

FDA approves additional intended use of Roche's cobas TaqScreen MPX Test

Roche announced today that the United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA) approved an additional intended use for its licensed nucleic acid test, to screen source plasma in pools comprised of up to 96 individual donations. The test, called the cobas® TaqScreen MPX Test for use on the cobas s 201 system, is a qualitative, in-vitro test for the simultaneous, direct detection of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1 Group M RNA, HIV-1 Group O RNA , HIV-2 RNA), hepatitis C virus RNA and hepatitis B virus DNA in human plasma.
