The OMED Health Breath Analyzer offers an accurate, non-invasive way to assess microbiome function through breath analysis.
- Measures hydrogen and methane levels in exhaled breath
- Provides a real-time snapshot of metabolic activity
- Portable and easy to use, ideal for at-home testing and ongoing health monitoring
Developed by experts in breath research to streamline hydrogen and methane sampling
The OMED Health Breath Analyzer is a handheld sensor system designed for at-home collection and analysis of hydrogen and methane gases produced by the fermentation of undigested sugars by the gut microbiome. This portable device provides accurate, on-demand breath testing, making it a practical tool for both clinical trials and research applications.
Paired with a user-friendly smartphone app, the Breath Analyzer allows individuals to log food intake and symptoms alongside their breath readings. This integrated data can then be accessed by researchers for longitudinal monitoring of gut microbiome responses across a range of clinical study designs.
To ensure accuracy comparable to in-clinic hydrogen methane breath tests (HMBT), the OMED Health team conducted extensive validation. This included building an in-house synthetic breath rig and benchmarking the device against a clinically established HMBT system.

Features
- Home testing: Reduces patient burden by enabling quicker access to results and making repeat testing easier—ideal for longitudinal analysis.
- Easy to use: Non-invasive, safe, and straightforward to operate, making it suitable for a wide range of participant groups in various settings.
- Flexible: Supports remote patient monitoring, improving accessibility for individuals with limited mobility and allowing for asynchronous communication and better adherence to clinical protocols.
- Cost-effective: Eliminates the need for benchtop equipment and its associated costs. Reduces the expense of repeat testing while increasing patient throughput.
- Convenient: Removes the need for patients to spend hours in a clinical setting. Offers access to a richer data set, supporting more efficient clinical trial data collection.
- Shorter waiting lists: Expands clinical capacity by removing bottlenecks in testing. Missed appointments are avoided, allowing staff to focus on higher-value tasks.
Inside the OMED Health Breath Analyzer
The OMED Health Breath Analyzer leverages MOS (metal-oxide semiconductor) sensor technology to measure hydrogen and methane levels in exhaled breath. To ensure accuracy, a diffusion membrane filters the breath sample, minimizing the influence of interfering compounds on sensor performance. Additionally, a protective mesh prevents moisture condensation on the sensors, helping to maintain a stable baseline.
