Takeda Global Research & Development Center, Inc., U.S., (TGRD U.S.) announced today that it has initiated a trial to study how dexlansoprazole and several other proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) affect the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of Plavix (clopidogrel bisulfate) in healthy subjects. Takeda has been evaluating all published data and communications from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding the potential risks associated with concomitant use of clopidogrel and PPIs.

Advanced maternal age is linked to a significantly elevated risk of having a child with autism, regardless of the father's age, according to an exhaustive study of all births in California during the 1990s by UC Davis Health System researchers. FDA accepts Psyadon Pharmaceuticals' ecopipam IND for treatment of LND

Psyadon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has accepted its Investigational New Drug Application (IND) to study ecopipam in patients with Lesch-Nyhan Disease (LND). The first center at which the drug will be evaluated is Emory University under the direction of Dr. Hyder A. Jinnah, MD, PhD. The study is designed to evaluate the safety and tolerability of different doses of ecopipam in adults (group 1), adolescents (group 2) and children (group 3) with LND.

Three out of five women who have given birth to a child with a congenital heart defect (CHD) -- the number-one birth defect and leading killer of infants and newborns -- were never tested for the defect during pregnancy. BioMarin announces update on BMN 110 Phase I/II trial for Morquio A Syndrome

BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. today announced an update on the Phase I/II trial for BMN 110 or N-acetylgalactosamine 6-sulfatase (GALNS), intended for the treatment of the lysosomal storage disorder Mucopolysaccharidosis Type IVA (MPS IVA), or Morquio A Syndrome. Preliminary clinical data from the first 24 weeks of the study (12 weeks at 0.1mg/kg and 12 weeks at 1.0 mg/kg) have been evaluated, and BioMarin plans to announce top-line results for the full 36-week study after completion of dosing at 2.0 mg/kg in the second quarter of 2010.
