ALS Biopharma receives ADDF grant to develop therapeutics against Alzheimer's disease

The Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation announced today that it has awarded a grant of $195,000 to ALS Biopharma, LLC to develop therapeutics targeted at clearing toxic proteins implicated in Alzheimer's disease.

Interim results from ganetespib Phase 2 trial in NSCLC to be presented at 11th IASLC annual meeting

Synta Pharmaceuticals Corp., a biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering, developing, and commercializing small molecule drugs to treat severe medical conditions, today announced that Dr. Jonathan Goldman, M.D., Premiere Oncology will present interim results from a Phase 2 trial of ganetespib in non-small cell lung cancer at the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer 11th Annual Targeted Therapies for the Treatment of Lung Cancer Meeting.

DMP1 protein prevents endothelial cells to respond to VEGF

A team from the Metastasis Research Laboratory (GIGA-Cancer/Liège University Hospital) has just published, in the prestigious journal BLOOD, their work demonstrating that the DMP1 protein has previously unsuspected anti-angiogenic activities which could be used for the development of new treatments against cancer, but also against diseases in which angiogenesis plays a major role, such as psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis or diabetic retinopathy.

p38-targeted compounds hold promise for Alzheimer's disease treatment

Linda J. Van Eldik, director of the University of Kentucky Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, has been awarded a $750,000 grant to further her research into a possible treatment for Alzheimer's disease. The grant is from the Edward N. And Della L. Thome Memorial Foundation, and was one of only eight Awards in Alzheimer's Disease Drug Discovery Research to be given in the U.S. in 2010.

ArQule's ARQ 197 Phase 1 clinical trial results in colorectal cancer presented at ASCO 2011

ArQule, Inc. today announced the presentation of Phase 1 results of a clinical trial among patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC) treated with ARQ 197, a selective small molecule inhibitor of the c-MET receptor tyrosine kinase, in combination with irinotecan and cetuximab. Novel FAK inhibitors targeting binding site of VEGFR-3 reduce growth of pancreatic cancer cells

CureFAKtor Pharmaceuticals, LLC, a privately-held biopharmaceutical company focused on the research and development of Focal Adhesion Kinase (FAK) inhibitors for cancer, today presented research results at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium in San Francisco demonstrating that novel FAK inhibitors targeting the binding site of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 3 (VEGFR-3) reduced the growth of pancreatic cancer cells in vitro and in vivo.
