Patterson reports consolidated sales of $820,084,000 for third-quarter of fiscal 2010

Patterson Companies, Inc. today reported consolidated sales of $820,084,000 for the third quarter of fiscal 2010 ended January 23, an increase of 1% from $811,023,000 in the year-earlier quarter. Net income of $56,049,000 or $.47 per diluted share rose 6% from $52,807,000 or $0.45 per diluted share in the third quarter of fiscal 2009.

The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) announced today that it has received a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, America's largest independent evaluator of charitable donations, for demonstrating exceptional fiscal responsibility in its efforts to bring patients the next generation of treatments and find a cure for multiple myeloma. This is the seventh consecutive year the MMRF has been honored with this distinguished recognition.

PK/PD data demonstrates clear relationship between TBR-652 plasma concentrations and antiviral activity

Pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) data for TBR-652, which is being developed by Tobira Therapeutics for the treatment of HIV infection, show a strong relationship between drug exposure and viral suppression with this next-generation CCR5 receptor antagonist. These data were presented here today at the 17th Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI).

Health Canada approves Talecris Biotherapeutics' PROLASTIN-C for AAT deficiency

Talecris Biotherapeutics announced today that it has received approval from Health Canada for PROLASTIN®-C (Alpha1-Proteinase Inhibitor [Human]), a more purified and concentrated version of PROLASTIN® produced using advances in manufacturing technology. The Ohio Nurses Association applauds the introduction of House Bill 450 (HB 450) on February 11, 2010, sponsored by State Representatives Denise Driehaus (D-Columbus) and Linda S. Bolon (D-Columbiana). The bill will increase the penalty for assault when the victim is a registered nurse or a licensed practical nurse engaged in the performance of official duties whom the offender knows or has reasonable cause to believe is a registered nurse or a licensed practical nurse.

Catalysis Foundation for Health to discover new TB biomarkers with $5M Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation grant

The Catalysis Foundation for Health (Catalysis), a 501 (c) (3) non-profit entity dedicated to developing sustainable diagnostics for the developing world, announced today that it has received a $5 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The grant money will be used to discover new tuberculosis (TB) biomarkers that can be used to improve diagnostic tests and potentially develop more effective TB treatments.

Fluidigm releases amplicon tagging protocol for Illumina GA II next-generation sequencer

Fluidigm Corporation today announced the release of its amplicon tagging protocol for the Illumina GA II next-generation sequencer.
