FDA asks makers of vaginal mesh to respond to safety queries

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has ordered Johnson & Johnson and C.R. Bard Inc. to study rates of organ damage, infection and painful sex linked to vaginal mesh implants, in response to doctors and patients who say the devices have harmed women.

Salix Pharmaceuticals, Ltd. and Oceana Therapeutics, LLC today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement whereby Salix will acquire all of the outstanding stock of Oceana Therapeutics, Inc., a privately-held global provider of gastroenterology and urology therapeutics, for $300 million in cash.

NIH selects Women & Infants to participate in Pelvic Floor Disorders Network

Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island has been selected by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to participate in the national Pelvic Floor Disorders Network (PFDN). Women & Infants is one of just eight medical centers from across the US, and the only one in the Northeast, to work collaboratively to develop and perform research studies related to women with pelvic floor disorders.

Loss of elasticity and protein breakdown cause pelvic organ prolapse
