Breastfeeding can partially offset long-term side effects of cancer treatment

Women who have survived childhood cancer should be advised to breastfeed if they can, in order to offset some of the negative health effects of their earlier cancer treatment. According to Susan Ogg and colleagues from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, making women aware of the benefits of breastfeeding should be part of routine post-cancer diet and healthy lifestyle recommendations.

Merck provides additional information about DSMB recommendations for vorapaxar TRA-2P study

Merck reported today that investigators in the TRA-2P study of vorapaxar have been provided with additional information about the recommendations of the Data and Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) regarding the TRA-2P study. The additional information was sent yesterday in a communication to investigators from the Operations Committee of the TRA-2P study of vorapaxar. Vorapaxar is one of Merck's investigational cardiovascular medicines.

No robust conclusions possible on advantages or disadvantages of PET

Malignant gliomas are fast-growing brain tumours with poor prospects of recovery depending on disease stage. Experts hope that the examination of patients by means of positron emission tomography (PET) is more helpful in the choice of the right treatment than other procedures. In a final report the German Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG) has now investigated the benefit of PET in the detection of recurrences. According to this report, no robust conclusions are possible on the advantages or disadvantages of PET.
