STAAR Surgical anticipates fourth quarter revenue to exceed $14.2 million

STAAR Surgical Company, a leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of minimally invasive ophthalmic products, today announced that it expects revenue for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2010 to exceed $14.2 million. Revenues for the full year were approximately $55 million, a 7% increase over 2009 revenues, driven by an increase of approximately 10% in revenues from the core ICL and IOL product lines.

Haiti teen to undergo open-heart surgery at Montefiore

Mahalia Desruisseaux, M.D., assistant professor of pathology and of medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University who had traveled to Haiti to assist in the relief effort, identified a serious heart condition. Now, one year later, Ms. Ajuste will undergo open-heart surgery at Montefiore, The University Hospital and Academic Medical Center for Einstein, to correct the defect.

Emotional progress of patients treated with dialysis in the Basque Country Autonomous Community: Study

Patients who have to undergo dialysis see their lives inevitably affected by the treatment. Despite medical advances, the quality of life perceived by these kidney patients has improved very little, although it varies from person to person. Basing this as her starting point, Dr Begoña Ruiz de Alegría studied the emotional progress of patients treated with dialysis (hospitalised haemodialysis treatment and domiciliary peritoneal dialysis) in the Basque Country Autonomous Community.
